Geoplin concluded first gas supply deal with SOCAR from Azerbaijan

Slovenia's Geoplin has signed its first gas supply deal with SOCAR, Azerbaijan’s state oil company, marking the beginning of potential long-term energy cooperation following a Memorandum of Understanding signed in July 2024.

As of August 1, 2024, Slovenian Geoplin concluded the first gas supply deal with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). This deal could be considered as a ground for establishing long-term relationship between the two companies.

The gas supply transaction was carried out in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between SOCAR and Geoplin, Slovenia’s largest natural gas supplier, signed on July 17 of this year, when Slovenian Minister for Environment Climate and Energy Bojan Kumer met the president of SOCAR in Baku, Azerbaijan.  Geoplin’s Manager Simon Urbancl underlined at the time that the support of the representatives of the Slovenian state is extremely important in concluding such deals.

The memorandum was signed with the intention to expand cooperation in gas supply. Today’s transaction is a first step towards potential long-term co-operation between Geoplin and SOCAR.
